Ingredients
- black sesame powder — 1/2 cup (60 g)
- walnuts — 1/3 cup (40 g)
- glutinous rice flour — 3 tbsp
- rock sugar — 2 tbsp, or to taste
- water — 3 cups (750 ml)
Steps (beginner-friendly)
- Toast the walnuts in a dry pan over medium heat for 3 minutes until fragrant, then cool and rub off any loose skins.
- Blend the walnuts with 1 cup of the water until smooth — a small blender works fine.
Tip: Stirring non-stop is the only technique here — once it thickens it goes fast, and a lazy spatula means lumps.
Tradition note: Black sesame and walnut paste has been a Chinese breakfast favorite for generations — loved for its rich, nutty warmth on cold mornings.
